Grace Yufela is the fourth child in a loving family of seven. She grew up during the era in Cameroon, Africa where the girl child had no opportunity to go to school, but was forced into early marriage. Grace’s parents broke the taboo of not sending girl children to school and sent Grace to school. Grace went to St Joseph Girl’s Primary School, Bamenda; St Augustine’s College, Nso and went for further Studies to Britain where she studied Secretariat Duties.
Grace Yufela Charitable Foundation is a non-profit 501(C)3 organization whose mission and vision is to create awareness and empower refugees and immigrants in Minnesota in general and the people from Africa through quality grass root education about mental health challenges, disorder, services and skills building to live a fulfilling life.

The mental health struggles and challenges that Grace had experienced in the past two decades, is similar to the mental health struggles of refugees and immigrants in Minnesota in particular and the people of Africa in general. In Minnesota, amongst the refugee, immigrant population, of the needs that have emerged throughout the years, social isolation leading to mental health struggles has always been one of the most mentioned challenges.

The community members intentionally or unintentionally were hostile to her, assaulted and even raped her numerous times. Grace fed from the garbage, was homeless and sometimes walked naked in the streets. Grace’s life changed and Grace saw the light at the end of the tunnel when Grace was exposed to psychiatric interventions.
